CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A flight from Chicago to New York took a detour this weekend.

American Airlines Flight 408 was flying from O'Hare to LaGuardia when it was diverted to Kalamazoo, Michigan due to a possible mechanical issue. It turned out to be a fuel leak.

“It was a good response from everybody…The pilots made a good decision, land where the first possible airport that they could, let us take care of it on the ground,” said Craig Williams, director of the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport.

A long, frustrating day but a safe one.

“No injuries, it was a normal landing…It taxied to the gate…People got off just normal and basically spent the day in Kalamazoo,” Williams said.

Another plane was then brought in to accommodate the 165 people to get them to New York.
