(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A North Side coffee shop offers much more than just a jolt of caffeine.
Coffee Hip-Hop & Mental Health on Belmont near Seminary in the Lake View neighborhood is the brainchild of Christopher LeMark. The musician and entrepreneur credits therapy and mental health treatment for getting him out of a dark place.
He told the Noon Business Hour on Friday that he wants to create a safe space where people can talk about their mental health treatment journey.
“I wanted to take what was happening in therapy to the public so we can teach people that, No. 1, vulnerability is a gift,” LeMark said. “Two, you don’t have to live in shame and embarrassment from the trauma that took place in your life.”
Proceeds from coffee and merchandise go to efforts to connect people in need with a mental health therapist.
