Rolling on the Chicago River, in a hot tub: It's an option now

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Winter is here, but that doesn’t mean boating season has to end.

When you think of a Chicago winter, you might not think of hot-tubbing down the river. But Ron Silvia of the Chicago Electric Boat Company would beg to differ.

He says the six-person vessels will float along the Chicago River from Michigan Avenue to Wells Street, a journey that takes about 90 minutes.

“It’s just this unbelievable experience to just soothe the mind and the body and relax,” Silvia said. “The hot tubs stay in the high 90s to low 100s, for the temperature. So, you stay very warm in the tub.”

Patrons are encouraged to bring their own robes, towels and flip flops and are expected to wear bathing suits or shorts and T-shirts (sorry, no nudity allowed). Every boat is sanitized and cleaned for 30 minutes between rides.

Cruises will operate Wednesdays through Sundays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m (and until 9 p.m. on Saturdays). Fees are $250 on weekdays and $315 on weekends. Minimum age is 13.
