CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Early voting sites for the 2024 general election have now opened across the city, each with a number of resources to assist voters.
At a Monday press conference held inside the early voting super site on Clark Street in the Loop, Chicago Board of Elections Chair Marisel Hernandez told reporters that early voting numbers are down so far compared to 2016, with 2020 not really comparable, as it took place during the height of pandemic measures.
But, she expects a sharp rise with the opening now of the City’s early voting sites open 7 days a week. She said the Board of Elections is making it easy on voters this year.
“A voter living in Chicago may choose to vote at any early voting site that’s convenient for them, no matter where they live in the city,” Hernandez said.
About 70,000 Chicagoans have cast their vote already.
In addition to being ADA compliant, a number of language services are available, including the top 7 spoken in Chicago: Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Polish and several South Asian languages.
Day of voter registration available at each polling site.
“We will have three temporary early voting sites located at Chicago State University, Northeastern Illinois University and the University of Chicago that will be open from Oct. 30 through Nov. 1. By bringing the polls directly to campuses, the aim of this program is to make the voting experience more convenient and accessible for students and their surrounding community,” Hernandez said.
Hernandez also noted that well over 2,000 high school and college students are assigned to be election judges for Nov. 5 making up a quarter of the city’s total poll worker force.
