CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago’s electric scooter program was expected to have been fully up and running about a month ago. But it’s been delayed by companies that lost out on licenses.
The city chose Lime, Spin and Superpedestrian in April and said at the time “that all scooter operations will launch their services in early May.” But two companies that were not chosen, Bird and Helbiz, filed appeals, holding up the process.
Bird was part of the second pilot program and racked up the most violations. The Daily Line reported a Bird representative said the company is “disappointed” it was denied a license and It’s “entitled to transparency.” The company wants to know that it was “a fair, just and lawful process.”
So, for now, Lyft, which has a separate deal with the city and also operates Divvy Bikes, is the only company with scooters on the streets.
