(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The no-kill animal welfare group PAWS Chicago is launching an effort to help shelters in Louisiana that have been affected by Hurricane Ida.
PAWS is sending volunteers later this week to the hard-hit coastal region to deliver supplies for animal shelters. The organization is also bringing back dogs and cats that were being housed when the storm hit.
This is expected to free up space for additional animals that were displaced by Ida.
People can help by dropping off donations on Tuesday, August 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the PAWS Chicago Medical Center, 3516 W 26th Street. Needed supplies include bottled water, dry/canned pet food, cleaning supplies, kitten/puppy milk replacer, leashes, collars, and flea/tick medication.
The team from PAWS Chicago is expected back Wednesday with animals from Louisiana.
Each animal will be given complete medical care, vaccinations, microchips and spay/neuter surgeries as needed. Once medically cleared, animals will be available for adoption through PAWS Chicago’s Virtual Adoption Process.
