
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — As the 2023 school year gets back underway, a new report has ranked a number of Chicago-area high schools as some of the best in the nation.
All of the top five schools in Illinois are in Chicago, according to U.S. News and World Report. Walter Payton College Preparatory High School took home the top spot in the state, and the magazine ranked the high school — located in Old Town — as the 10th-best in the nation.
Rounding out Illinois’ top five schools were: Northside College Prep, Jones College Prep, Whitney Young Magnet High School, and Lane Tech College Prep High School.
When it came to suburban schools, Lake County was well represented at the top of the Illinois rankings. Out of the top 20 high schools in the state, seven of them were in Lake County.

-Hancock College Preparatory High School
-Glenbrook South High School
-Deerfield High School
-William Fremd High School
-Lindblom Math and Science Academy
-Glenbrook North High School
The magazine ranked over 17,000 schools across the nation and considered several factors in its rankings, including college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment performance, graduation rates and more.
