CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The owner of a luxury car dealership in the Gold Coast is furious after an armed robbery in the middle of the day Saturday.
Chicago police said shortly after noon, two men walked into Gold Coast Exotic Motors near Pearson and Rush streets where one used a hammer to smash a display case while the other stood guard at the door.
Owner Joe Perillo said the watches were worth about $2 million. He told CBS 2 Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx must do more about crime or the city he loves will become a desert.
“To walk into my business and crash in the windows and one guy stands with a gun and we have to have this happen ... enough is enough,” Perillo said.
This latest smash and grab came despite Chicago police having a plan for stepped up patrols following violence and thefts downtown last weekend.
