(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 22-year-old Chicago man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a motorist on Interstate 55 last month.

Nicholas M. Samudio is charged with one count of first-degree murder and is being held without bail in Cook County Jail, state police said Wednesday.

Authorities say he is the shooter who fired at a motorist Feb. 16 on northbound I-55 at Lock Street on the city’s Southwest Side. Troopers responded to a report of shots fired and found a dead man in a vehicle.
Investigators used surveillance video and other evidence to identify a suspect, officials said.

Samudio was taken into custody late last month after an unrelated police pursuit in Chicago, officials said. He was indicted for murder this week.

ABC 7 identified the shooting victim as Humberto Marin-Garcia, 28. His wife told the station Marin-Garcia had just pulled onto the Stevenson Expressway near Damen Avenue with her and their two children when their vehicle came under fire. She said she was able to bring the vehicle to a stop, but her husband was not breathing.
