CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The nearly 50,000 people who ran the Bank of America Chicago Marathon each received a medal, and those runners also helped clothe and feed people in Chicago.

Carey Pinkowski, executive director of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, calls it a great tradition for a great cause. Runners’ discarded clothing- jackets, hats, gloves- that kept them warm before the race were donated to AMVETS.

“It pretty much stays in the Chicagoland area…It goes to their outreach in greater Chicagoland area…We also do something very similar with the food at the finish line, which goes to the Greater Chicago Food Depository too…We have two things going on simultaneously…Both [are] great partners and an example how the event can help who are in need,” Pinkowski said.
