(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Park District is responding to growing interest in the sport of pickleball.

Officials say pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country and that more pickleball courts are needed in the city.

The park district says there are currently 80 pickleball courts in the city, and plans are in the works to add 50 more between now and the end of 2025.

Plans include developing three regional facilities that would have several courts and the capacity to host tournaments. The remaining individual courts in neighborhood parks would include new construction and converting tennis or basketball courts.
