(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police officials say community-police collaboration made Puerto Rican Day Festival a success on the Northwest Side over the weekend.
The weekend's event brought thousands to Humboldt Park, and Chicago Police Interim Supt. Fred Waller said his department was able to help keep everyone save with the help of community partners.
"What we're seeing is more and more youth are aligning themselves with some of the street interrupters and becoming part of trying to get some of these other people to not think in a criminal-minded way,” he said during a news conference Monday.
He also says CPD continues to learn how to respond faster and “be able to move resources when we have to."
Not all was quiet across the city over the weekend. Four people were killed and at least 28 others were wounded, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
