(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Interim Police Supt. Fred Waller says his officers are ready to keep entrants and spectators safe during this weekend's Pride events.
"We're going to have additional officers deployed to staff the parade route and we're going to have our most experienced officers working throughout the night after the parade," Waller said during a news conference Friday in Northalsted.
The Chicago Police Department strategy includes plainclothes officers and additional command posts.
Event workers whom WBBM Newsradio interviewed said safety is a big concern because of recent hate crimes against the LGBTQ community and gun violence in general. Waller said the public should not hesitate to approach an officer if they see something amiss.
