CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The head of Chicago's Department of Streets and Sanitation says his department is willing to try just about anything to bring down the rodent population in the City. But, he says there are things the public can do to help.
Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Cole Stallard quarrels with one pest control labeling Chicago the rattiest city in America, but he said the City can and will do more to address the problem.
“Looking ahead to 2025…We’ll shift resources to provide the Bureau of Rodent Control with five extra crews,” Stallard said at the City Council Budget Committee hearing Wednesday.
He told the committee they may even try using carbon dioxide to kill rats in their holes.
“We’re open for anything to make it better,” Stallard added. “We understand that just throwing more resources at something just doesn’t always work.
He said, if people cleaned up after their dogs, stopped littering and threw food wastes into City bins, there would be less food for the rats.
