Arlington Heights to pay $275K in discrimination lawsuit where ex-cop says he was called ‘the Taliban’

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A former suburban police officer will receive a payment after facing alleged discrimination from his colleagues.

Arlington Heights will pay former officer Anfiny Eshoo $275,000 in a settlement agreement.

Last year, Eshoo sued the village, claiming his fellow officers made continuous comments about his national origin and race, according to the Daily Herald.

Eshoo, who has Assyrian and Iraqi heritage, said he was referred to as "the Taliban" within the department, and that officers left stickers and cartoons with slurs in his mailbox.

The village denies the allegations.

Eshoo worked at the department from May 2016 to January 2020, when he was fired after he was accused of failing to conduct a proper preliminary investigation.
