CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Performing arts venues, groups and producers in Chicago have agreed on a unified COVID-19 protocol for this fall.

More than 65 theaters and performing arts organizations in the League of Chicago Theatres settled on COVID-19 vaccination and mask requirements for audiences. The protocol will be in effect by Sept. 1 until the end of 2021.

"Our goal is not to just reopen, but to reopen safely and more importantly, to stay open. So we wanted to establish a policy and we really felt like it was best to be done in a group effort," Auditorium Theatre CEO Rich Regan told WBBM Newsradio.

Proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test will be required for all audience members.

Specific protocols may vary by venue and some venues may not accept negative tests for entry. Performers, backstage crews and staff will also comply with the requirements.
