CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Fifty finalists have been chosen in Chicago’s first-ever “You Name a Snow Plow” contest, which entered its second phase on Sunday.

The Department of Streets and Sanitation launched the contest, in which Chicagoans will vote on names for six snowplows — one for each of the city’s snow districts — in December 2021. Voting is open through Jan. 31.

Winning names will then represent one snow plow from each district.

The list is heavy on Chicago-themed snow plow puns, and they run the gamut between sports figures, historical icons, the city’s architecture, famous songs, and local quirks. Some of the options include:

-Mrs. O’Leary’s Plow

-Super Bowl Shovel

-Benny the Bull-izzard

-Ludwig Mies van der Snow

-Sleet Home Chicago

-Ernie Snowbanks

-Little Dibbie

Contests like this have historically resulted in famously whimsical names, such as “Boaty McBoatface” in 2016, but there’s really only one among Chicago's snow plow finalists: Megameltasaurus.

Other choices included pop culture-themed snow plow puns: Ice-Ta-La-Vista, Austin Plowers, Better Call Salt, and Sir-Salts-A-Lot.

See the full list here. In its press release, the City also said residents will be able to view Chicago’s full snow fleet in real-time with its plow tracker.
