Kathy Osterman Awards returns to honor city of Chicago employees who went above and beyond during pandemic

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — City of Chicago employees will once again be in the spotlight as the city revives the Kathy Osterman Awards.

The awards luncheon is the first of its kind since 2014 and is slated for Dec. 7.

Twenty employees will be recognized for going above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As the year comes to an end, The City of Chicago is ready to move forward, but not without acknowledging all the arduous work City employees have devoted to our communities and serving our City, with respect and care, regardless of the pandemic,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in a statement.

Kathy Osterman was known for her legacy as a community activist, Chicago alderman and director of the mayor’s office of special events. She died of cancer in 1992.
