CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — This week’s Made in Chicago highlights Curvy Crush Vintage, which ensures vintage clothing can be a perfect fit to everyone.
"The responses I get from our clients, and the people that shop with us [are] the reason I do this,” said Curvy Crush Vintage founder Alanna Friker.
Friker created Curvy Crush Vintage after a number of disappointing trips to vintage markets.
"There's a lot of smaller sizes, and there's a lot of stuff for people that aren't me,” Friker said. “I saw a gap in the market and decided to open my own business."
For the past two years, Friker has been on a mission to find vintage threads for all shapes and sizes.
"I drive to Indiana and Wisconsin, do some estate sales, Facebook Marketplace,” Friker said. “I've gotten clothes from friends, family, people that have stuff sitting in their basement that they've had forever."
Last month, Curvy Crush took part in a plus-sized market in Wicker Park called Hot and Heavy.
"It was absolutely crazy, truly one of the best weekends of my life,” Friker said. “The turnout was incredible. The response I get from people when I'm at these markets that don't have anyone else is just pure relief. I get things like, 'Oh, you actually sell my size.' Like, yes I do. I sell everyone's size."
Whether it's in-person or online, Friker said the goal is ensuring everyone is able to love their look.
“It makes you feel not alone,” Friker said. “You're allowed to be fat and plus-sized and allowed to love fashion and dress how you want. There are people out there that will provide you with the clothes that match that hope.”
Curvy Crush Vintage is on Instagram, and Friker said it’s likely coming to a market or storefront near you soon.
"We will certainly be around Chicago, hoping to offer a great, luxury shopping experience for those who are looking for it," Friker said.
