New ‘Polish Cooking Show’ hopes recipe of food, culture and comedy will make it a hit

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The producer of a new show on Channel 11 is hoping that cooking, culture and comedy will be the recipe for the next hit program on public television.

Chicago's Natalie Rokita and her new mother-in-law, Mama Ala Rokita, are the stars of "The Polish Cooking Show."

Producer Rikki Lee Travolta said the show is based on a long-standing tradition of mothers-in-law teaching their daughters-in-law about Polish cooking and culture.

He said he believes the show will resonate well beyond Chicago's large Polish community.

"Natalie Rokita is trained in Second City Improv and it really makes a huge difference in the show. She has this witty banter that she can play off anything that Mama Ala says and it is just a delight to watch them in action together," Travolta told WBBM Newsradio.

The pilot of "The Polish Cooking Show" debuts Saturday morning on Channel 11. If it's successful, Travolta said he hopes the show will become a regular part of the Channel 11 lineup as well as on public television stations around the country.
