CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — After years of deferred maintenance, Chicago's Vietnam Veterans Memorial is being restored.
The memorial, which is located along Chicago's Riverwalk, was dedicated on Nov. 11, 2005.
It features the engraved names of 2,936 Illinois veterans. After nearly 19 years, though, some of the names are hard to read and other repairs are needed.
In announcing the restoration, Mayor Brandon Johnson said it's our duty and responsibility to honor our veterans.
The city will hold a public ceremony at the memorial this Friday at 11 a.m. to commemorate National Vietnam Veterans Day.
