(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man was taken to the hospital after being exposed to a recalled chlorine product in McHenry County.
A pool chemical employee was in Spring Grove earlier this week, collecting buckets of chlorine tablets after they were voluntarily recalled by Haviland Pool and Spa.
The Michigan-based company had sent employees to collect the 50-pound buckets of ProTeam 3-inch High Tech Tabs that were purchased from Novotny Sales in McHenry between April 28 and May 3.
Officials say a chemical reaction caused pressure within one of the buckets to build up and burst open, injuring the man’s hand.
Spring Grove Fire Protection District Chief Paul Klicker tells WBBM Newsradio the man was taken to a nearby hospital and later released.
The fire protection district issued a warning to customers not to touch the affected buckets of chlorine tablets but instead to call the company to arrange pick-up.
Haviland Pool and Spa can be reached at (616) 514-3614 or (800) 333-0400.
“We have been in contact with local authorities and are working closely with our retail partners to proactively reach out to customers who may have purchased product from the affected lot numbers. We have also launched an internal investigation into the cause of the issue and to ensure the quality and safety of our products,” the company said.
