(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – We're getting our first look at this year's Christkindlmarket souvenir mug.
Drinking hot spiced wine out of a souvenir mug is tradition for many Chicagoans. This year, the 2022 mug will be an ode to the city's Year of the Dance celebration.
Candace Jordan with Chicago Star Media says Christkindlmarket is best known for its boot-shaped mugs, but this year the mug is a different shape from anything done in the past.
“The mug is a different shape from anything done in the past and curves out on one side to simulate the movement of dance--in particular, a typical German dance formation with friends holding hands and moving to the music, symbolizing a sense of community,” a news release explains.
Another mug for non-alcoholic beverages will also be for sale and features a female penguin.
Christkindlmarket is inspired by Germany’s open-air Christmas markets.Three locations are set to open Nov. 18: at Daley Plaza, Wrigleyville and Aurora.
