CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Congressman Jesus “Chuy” Garcia said he’s thinking of running for Chicago mayor again, but admits it’s a tough decision to make.
For weeks, Garcia’s been saying he’s considering a mayoral campaign — and on Wednesday he did it again. This time, at City Hall to endorse three allies for alderman, the congressman offered several reasons why he might not run.
Garcia said he feels a responsibility to join his colleagues on Capitol Hill defending what he calls the threat against democracy and our republic. He said the threat against democracy is real, and he and others are fighting to protect it on Capitol Hill.
He also highlighted historic legislation that’s been passed to help people in these tough times and that he loves his work.
Also, Garcia noted that persuading his wife to be enthusiastic about another mayoral campaign is just as challenging as the other things. "Right honey?" he asked his wife who was standing nearby videotaping. Mrs. Garcia smiled a bit but did not answer.
Garcia said maybe if there was opinion polling that showed how he would do he’d consider that. Asked if he commissioned any polls, he said maybe, and that if he had more campaign money — he would.
