CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The City of Chicago, the Park District, the Public Schools and social services agencies held a press conference Thursday, offering kids and young adults all sorts of opportunities to stay busy after schools are out for the summer, but they didn’t want to discuss the elephant in the room.
Coincidentally, the press conference came on the heels of last weekend’s violence involving young people downtown, which the officials declined to answer questions about.
There are thousands of jobs – many paying $15-40 an hour – also internships and activities for those ages 14-24.
"We are connected with all these wonderful agencies to make sure that we are working together to bring a variety of services and provide all kinds of positive opportunities and healthy engagement for the teens and the youth of our city," said Rosa Escareno, the general Superintendent of the Chicago Park District.
Brandie Knazzie, the Commissioner of the Department of Family and Support Services echoed her sentiments.
"Our community based organizations are focusing on strengthening our opportunity ecosystem, making sure that all young people that are connected with a caring adult and have a chance to have meaningful experiences."
