CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago City Council will be back in the Chamber in a week to act on a stalled measure to provide millions more for migrants coming to the City.

Council members used a procedural maneuver to delay a vote on the $51 million more for migrant aid until the next city council meeting. Mayor Brandon Johnson said his team set the next meeting for next Wednesday.

"Look, this is you know a dynamic that I inherited and, you know, I understand the urgency in this moment."

Former Mayor Lori Lightfoot usually reacted to such delays by scheduling another meeting in the same week. So Alderman Raymond Lopez who moved to stall the vote said this is progress.

"Well, I hope this is a signal that the new mayor wants to have a conversation about how we can move forward. We understand that we have a crisis- a humanitarian crisis left to us by the outgoing administration. We know we've spent millions every month with no solution."

The mayor said that was his intent.
