City employee skimmed $100,000 from vehicle sticker sales: watchdog

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A former employee of the Chicago City Clerk’s Office skimmed at least $100,00 from vehicle sticker sales, a government watchdog says.

An Inspector General’s report concluded that a former payment service representative kept cash for sticker sales between 2014 and 2021.

Investigators interviewed witnesses and went over security videos to identify the scope of the theft, the IG’s office said.

The report says the employee has resigned and has been referred for criminal prosecution.

The IG’s office is actively investigating 214 cases of misconduct, Inspector General Deborah Witzburg said. Her office wrapped up 139 investigations into misconduct last year.
