CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The City of Chicago snowplow fleet is hitting the road to fight Saturday's snowstorm.
The Department of streets and sanitation said it has activated its phase two snow program. That means 211 snow plows and salt spreaders will be deployed to the main arterial streets in the city as well as Lakeshore Drive.
Once the snow ends and the main streets are clear from curb to curb, the snowplows will shift over to the side streets.
The snow fighting vehicles will fan out across the 9,400 lane miles of roadway in the city. When laid out end to end, that's the same distance between Chicago and China.
Driver can track the plows in real time at chicagoshovels.org.
