CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- At noon Thursday, the City of Chicago is hosting a virtual conversation about a ground-breaking, three-year planning project; and the public can listen in and participate.

It’s called the “We Will Chicago" plan and Kathleen Dickhut, the lead planner for the city, said it’s ambitious and it’s about time.

"The city has not had a citywide plan since the 1960s and cities across the country do have these kinds of plans; Boston, Los Angeles, New York have all recently done citywide plans and it is an initiative to engage as many people in the City of Chicago as you can in the discussion of what you feel the future should look like," Dickhut said.

She said officials from several city departments will work with the public, organizations, the arts, and more to look at future challenges for the city and opportunities.

"This is looking across all the neighborhoods, all of the city, and all of the things we do besides development," she said.

"By the end of this year, what we want to have are seven research and policy reports by each of the pillars we are looking at...to let everyone know, this is what we have gathered, we will be looking at our paths, we will be looking at the principles, we will be looking at plans that we have done in the past, and ideas that we know people have for the future."
