CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Closing arguments are slated to begin this morning in the bribery case against the former CEO and lobbyists for Commonwealth Edison.

After a few days off, jurors are set to hear the federal government’s last arguments that lobbyists Jay Doherty, Mike McClain, John Hooker and former CEO Anne Pramaggiore hired allies of then House Speaker Michael Madigan in exchange for favorable treatment of the electric utility’s legislative agenda.

Over six weeks, jurors have heard from about 50 witnesses and dozens of wiretapped phone calls.

Defense attorneys argued none of the jobs and contracts were directly tied to actions the speaker took. The defendants say it was honest and legal lobbying.

Madigan is not on trial here. His racketeering case is slated for trial next year.
