CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Striking part-time faculty at Columbia College have reached a tentative agreement with the administration.
An email from Columbia’s president announcing the agreement came a day after the end of the fall semester. The student newspaper the Columbia Chronicle first reported the deal, which is expected to be voted on by the union representing part-time faculty this week.
They walked off the job at the end of October over increased class sizes, fewer courses and other cost-cutting measures aimed at closing a $20 million dollar budget hole.
The majority of the college’s teachers are adjuncts. It was the longest strike by adjunct faculty in U.S. history.
If they approve it, the J-term or January term and spring semester will go ahead as scheduled.
Full-time non-union processors began teaching after Thanksgiving to finish out the semester.
