(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A two-year-old black Labrador Retriever named Linden will be helping comfort kids and perhaps help solve crimes in Lake County.
Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart said Linden is the latest in a line of dogs that will serve as comfort dogs for children during investigations.
“As a dad, I care about getting this right. I've got two little 10 year old boys who love our dog and, to see my own children relax, in less traumatic situations of course, but the way that children and dogs connect is a unique thing in this world,” Rinehart said.
The Lake County State's Attorney's Office says during investigations, children are brought to a safe place to speak to investigators then the comfort dog will be brought in.
Linden is the third dog that Duo Dogs has donated to the State's Attorney’s Office. He will serve The Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center until he is 10 years old.
Carrie Wings, the LCCAC’s Education and Outreach Specialist, will serve as his handler
“I am pleased to welcome Linden to The Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center and our community," Ms. Wings said in a released statement.
"He has quickly become a member of our team and is already affecting those around him. Linden is a sweet and gentle boy. I am grateful that Linden was chosen for us and that he is here to help children through a difficult and trying time while providing comfort and ease.”
The first dog, Mitchell, was previously assigned to LCCAC prior to Linden and retired in July 2023. Hitch, the second Duo Dog, retired last month.
LCCAC’s mission “is to provide a safe environment for child victims of sexual and physical abuse.”
