(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the zoning needed for the proposed Bally's casino in Chicago and sent the project to the City Council.
The commission endorsed the changes after hearing detailed plans for the casino in River West and also considering objections from downtown Ald. Brendan Reilly.
Reilly said his ward will be impacted by traffic and other issues.
West Side Ald. Walter Burnett Jr. said he wants to hear details about how minorities will benefit with contracts and jobs or he’ll withhold support.
Bally’s has a labor agreement with unions, but Burnett said unions haven’t always promoted diversity.
The Chicago casino still needs approval from the full City Council and the Illinois Gaming Commission.
