CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some Chicagoland's commuters were greeted by snow Friday morning.
Bursts of snow early this morning lead to areas of very slick travel. The National Weather Service recommend drivers to be cautious if driving this morning, be prepared for sudden changes in visibility and to slow down, and allow extra stopping distance.
A winter weather advisory was issued for northern Illinois counties including Winnebago, Boone, and McHenry counties. The most snowfall is expected near the Illinois-Wisconsin state line.
For the southern suburbs, a coating to an inch of snow is expected. Six or more inches is expected near the Wisconsin border, according to Accuweather.
A narrow band of snow was expected to develop this morning north of I-88 with snowfall rates over 1"/hour until noon. However, after a pause, more rounds of snow is expected in the afternoon and into the evening mixed with rain, according to NWS.
