CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Later this morning, Chicago’s longest-serving alderman will be in federal court to learn his sentence for a corruption conviction.

Federal prosecutors have asked U.S. District Judge Virginia Kendall to give Burke ten years in prison after a jury found him guilty of racketeering, bribery and attempted extortion.

Defense attorneys submitted over 100 letters of support for Burke arguing for leniency for the now 80-year-old, in the form of home confinement.

Burke served on Chicago’s City Council for more than 50 years.

His wife, former State Supreme Court Justice Ann Burke, is expected to be in court for the sentencing.

Burke is the 40th Chicago alderman convicted of corruption.
