(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough has been hospitalized, according to a statement released by her office on Tuesday.
Her office did not say exactly why Yarbrough was in the hospital, but they did say she’s being treated for a serious medical condition.
Yarbrough is currently receiving medical attention, but the tone of the announcement suggested it was very serious.
Her family has requested privacy, and in the statement, officials asked for prayers for the clerk and her family at this difficult time.
Yarbrough was first elected in 2018. She became the first woman and the first Black person to hold that office. Previously, she served as the Cook County Recorder of Deeds.
