CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Cook County judge who ordered the release of a man who allegedly went on to kill his wife in November is being moved out of domestic violence court.
Judge Thomas Nowinski’s decision not to detain Constantin Beldie in October was based on incomplete presentations by prosecutors and his defense attorney. That’s a finding of Chief Judge Timothy Evans after a review.
Beldie allegedly stabbed his wife to death in Portage Park the day after he pleaded not guilty to domestic battery charges. He was later found dead from an apparent suicide.
Nowinski also last year denied a protective order against Crosetti Brand, who is accused of stabbing the woman who requested it and killing her 11-year-old son.
There have been multiple calls for Nowinski to step down from the bench, but Evans said the judge made the request himself to be transferred.
