(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — More than 200 birds have died in the past week at a forest preserve near Barrington in a suspected outbreak of bird flu, and a leading expert on local wildlife worries it could spread.
Chris Anchor, a biologist with the Forest Preserves of Cook County, on Thursday said the outbreak so far is limited to the Baker's Lake Forest Preserve and to one species of bird: the cormorant.
He worries the outbreak could spread to other areas and other species.
Anchor said in his 41 years working for Cook County, he has never seen a springtime disease outbreak among wild birds as severe as what's happened at Baker's Lake.
