(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The surge in deaths related to COVID-19 in Cook County continues.
The Medical Examiner's Office reported 425 virus-related deaths in Cook County between Jan. 10 and Jan. 16.
Spokesperson Natalia Derevyanny on Tuesday said it’s the second straight week that virus-related deaths in Cook County exceeded 400.
Evidence suggests a link between the risk of death from COVID and whether someone has been vaccinated, she said.
“Of the cases that we know the vaccination status, we are seeing the vast majority are unvaccinated or they are not boosted,” she said.
The latest weekly total of deaths is also higher than it's been since December 2020, she said.
