(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A local K9 police officer will soon be getting some life-protecting equipment.

K9 Aris will be receiving a bullet and stab protective vest from the charity Vested Interest in K9s.

It’ll be custom-fitted and should be delivered in the next 10 weeks.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the vest will be embroidered in memory of Des Moines, Iowa K9 officer Hobbs who died late last year after a sudden illness.

Vested Interest in K9s has donated more than 5,700 vests to K9 officers since the group organized in 2009. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s in the United States.
