(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police in central Illinois have reached out on social media to catch a Lego thief.

On Facebook this week, the Normal Police Department posted a “Manhunt Monday” item about a suspect they’re calling the “Lego Bandit.” They say the man pictured in surveillance images from a local Meijer store made off with $720 worth of Lego merchandise on July 11 before fleeing in a black SUV.

“The Lego Bandit has spent his days trying to build the most powerful empire in the Lego world. The Lego Bandit seeks to deprive the youth of the famous childhood toy in order to feed his own needs,” authorities said in the post.

Normal Police are asking people to contact Officer Sage at 309-454-9535 or esage@normal.org if they have information about the alleged theft.
