If you’ve wanted to try the famous hotdogs and Ozempic, you may be in luck, as Costco is offering its members a deal on weight loss medication.
In an announcement on Tuesday, Costco shared that through its healthcare partner Sesame, members will be able to pay as low as $179 and non-members $195 for a three-month subscription to the service.
Through the Sesame marketplace, subscribers will be able to access Sesame’s weight loss program, which offers specialized plans and, in some cases, prescription weight loss medication, at what it dubs the “most affordable weight loss program in the US.”
“We are witnessing important innovations in medically-supervised weight loss,” Sesame’s co-founder and CEO David Goldhill said in the statement. “Sesame’s unique model allows us not only to make high-quality specialty care like weight loss much more accessible and affordable, but also to empower clinicians to create care plans that are specific to — and appropriate for — each individual patient.”
Once a Sesame account is made and verified with a Costco membership, customers can expect things like a choice in their clinician, three months of clinical consultation, a nutritional guide and recommendations, video consultations, and an “individualized, clinically-appropriate treatment program.”
The company shared that clinicians will do their due diligence, collecting “ detailed medical history from each patient” to plan “appropriate diet, exercise, and lifestyle modifications” for those who join the program.
Sesame shared that if necessary, weight-loss medications may also be prescribed.
“When clinically appropriate, the clinician may also pair these interventions with medications, subject to their availability,” the company shared.
The weight-loss medications available include GLP-1 prescription weight-loss drugs, but they will not be available to everyone.
Sesame shared they will be prescribed on a patient-to-patient basis.
The program also shared that injectable semaglutides, like the ever-popular Ozempic and Wegovy, and other oral weight-loss drugs will be prescribed if Sesame finds it applicable to the candidate.
Within three months, Sesame claims that patients could lose up to 5% of their body weight on the program, with more time providing more results if they stick with their individual programs.
