(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave may soon be offered to employees of Cook County government.
Commissioner Bridget Degnan (12th) has introduced new rules that would expand the county’s existing policy. The current level of paid parental leave averages about seven weeks.
Additionally, Degnan is proposing to cover more employees, including those with births by surrogates, for example.
County Board President Toni Preckjwinkle supports the move. The board hopefully will vote on the idea next month, she said.
