(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Cook County veterans affairs and animal care leaders are teaming up for a unique clinic next month.
It’s called Vets and Pets.
“We would like to be able to give away 200 vaccines and microchips to the first 200 cats and dogs that are available,” explains Deanna Love, Director of the Cook County Department of Veterans Affairs. “It’s first-come, first-served basis.”
The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 1 at General Jones Armory from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Dr. Mamadou Diakhate, administrator of the county’s Department of Animal and Rabies Control, said the microchips are vitally important for pets, especially those owned by veterans and service members.
“It just gives you that peace of mind, knowing that if you lose your dog or cat, you’ve got a big chance of being reunited with them.”
Love said the event will be a special, heartwarming one.
“For some veterans who are disabled or on restricted incomes, this is an absolutely amazing opportunity to still be able to receive those quality, key services that are available to take care of our fur babies that take care of us on a regular basis.”
