Chicago Police Officer Fernanda Ballesteros, who was shot on Wednesday while trying to make a traffic stop near 61st and Paulina, is recovering, family members said.
"She is doing ok and already showing signs of improvement," Alejandro Ballesteros, her brother and a fellow police officer, wrote in a statement on Facebook. "She was taken out of the ICU … She's up, walking, talking and just being her regular goofy self."
The wounded officer's friends will be hosting a fundraiser for her on June 24th.
Police are looking for at least two suspects in connection to the shooting.
