CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago police are warning about a trend of motor vehicle break-ins and thefts in the South Loop.

Police said there have been at least 20 break-ins of vehicles in parking garages in the South Loop, from the 500 block of South Wells to 900 block of South Wells. In each case, the thieves have been breaking the driver’s side or passenger’s side windows, in either stealing items from the vehicles or taking the vehicles themselves.

The incidents have happened between December 21 and this past Sunday.

Police suggest people park in well-lighted areas, away from bigger vehicles that may shield thieves as they’re doing their dirty work.
