CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Chicago Public School system has come out with its proposed budget for the coming academic year, and it comes with an increase in property taxes.

CPS said it plans to spend the same amount of money in the next academic year as the current one, just under $9.5 billion.  It would come with a $131 million property tax increase.

CPS said 92% of schools will receive more money per student than this school year and that per-pupil spending is up by more than $1,000. The school system said the new budget plan takes steps to divvy up resources in a way that’s based more on student needs and less on student enrollment.

Public hearings on the budget proposal begin next week.
