A far southwest suburban police officer was seriously injured Monday night after responding to a domestic violence incident. The suspect was shot and killed by police.

According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, the Crest Hill police officer was stabbed in the femoral artery of a leg at an apartment in the 14-hundred block of Pioneer Road. That’s right at Crest Hill’s border with the city of Joliet.

Police said that the wife of 30-year old Matthew Parks had called police and reported Parks had punched her in the face and that there were children present. A dispatcher told responding officers that there was a lot of arguing and crying and that one person was heard making comments about “suicide by police”. Sheriff’s police said that after the officer was stabbed, a sergeant shot Parks several times. They said officers tried to save Parks’ life, but he was dead at the scene.

The injured officer underwent surgery Monday night and is in a hospital intensive care unit.
