(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A north suburban nature preserve remains closed as experts return there to look for possible unexploded military munitions.

The property that makes up Openlands Lakeshore Preserve was part of the old Ft. Sheridan Army base for more than 100 years.

A year ago, the preserve closed down after three explosives were found. Now, Naval officials say experts from Tetra Tech are returning to the preserve to do field searches for more possible explosives.

Openlands Lakeshore Preserve is 77 acres and is home to a unique combination of ravine, bluff and lakefront ecosystems.

Fencing has been placed in areas of the preserve as a precaution. Openlands asks people to contact Highland Park police if they notice any trespassers.
