CTA Orange Line train derails with 20 passengers on board

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Orange Line train derailment Monday morning caused an hourslong service disruption on the Southwest Side.

None of the roughly 20 passengers on board the train, which came off the tracks at about 6:30 a.m. near the 35th Street-Archer Station, were injured, the CTA said.

A spokesperson for the agency described the derailment as comparatively minor, but its effects have been larger.

As of about 9 a.m., the derailment was still causing major delays to service, according to a service alert. Trains were running in segments on either side of the derailment — with no train service between the Archer and Ashland stops. The CTA is providing free shuttle buses between the stops.

As of 2:10 p.m., full service to the Orange Line had been restored.
